Exhibition
The Dutch photobook is highly regarded and praised internationally. In the exhibition Celebration of the Photobook the Nederlands Fotomuseum is focusing directly on the recent history of the Dutch photobook for the first time. The occasion is the publication of The Dutch Photobook, edited by Rik Suermondt and Frits Gierstberg, which is appearing simultaneously with the exhibition. The exhibition shows a selection of the titles dealt with in this publication, together with related dummies, photos, contact prints, design sketches and a selection of children's photobooks. The production process, the collaboration between the photographer and graphic designer, and the development of the photobook since 1945 come up for examination. Given the time span over which the exhibited photobooks were produced, the recent history of The Netherlands also is visualized.

	The Dutch Photobook
The Dutch Photobook describes the relatively recent history of the famed Dutch photobook. Editors Rik Suermondt and Frits Gierstberg chose over 120 of the most significant Dutch photobooks and placed them in the context of developments in photography and society.

The post-Second World War Dutch photobook is unique because of the long tradition of graphic designers and photographers working closely together. It is highly prized abroad, and many photobooks have become part of the collections of museums and private collectors. This book shows the immense variety and allure of the Dutch photobook and makes it accessible to a broad audience.

Six chapters, organized both thematically and chronologically, examine company photobooks, photobooks about youth culture, landscape books, city books, travelogues and autonomous photobooks. For each theme, the 20 most noteworthy books are described and represented by gorgeous illustrations of their covers and parts of their contents.

Welcome to Tunisia - report of a study trip to Tunesia by the Master of Photography

	October 22–29, 2011
Every year the students of the Master Photography course at AKV St. Joost make a study trip. We use this trip to learn more about people, countries, political realities, and about how to reflect on and visualize this knowledge in photography. The students prepare projects they want to accomplish during the trip and find a way of completing their work within a week. This year we felt a strong urge to learn more about the recent developments in the Arab world and more particularly in Tunisia. We decided to visit Tunis during the week of the first election after the revolution of January 14th 2011. It was exciting to share this special moment in Tunisian history with the people we got to know, who shared their hopes and stories with us, with whom we had discussions and who helped us so generously. Many students engaged in work with political themes. A small group was drawn to the extraordinary landscapes of the south where they made unexpected discoveries.

We made a publication which is a representation of the extensive work the students and teachers did during this week. It can be seen as a newspaper, but it can also be unfolded into an exhibition that is easy to transport and install. On january 14th, the date of the first year of the revolution, we went back to Tunisia to bring this newspaper to the Tunisian people. The newspaper was presented during the opening of the World Press Photo exhibition at Cherif Fine Art gallery in Sidi Bou Said and besides this presentation we went to the center of the festivities in Tunisia, Boulevard Habib Bourghiba to give out the newspaper to people there.

There also is a website that shows more of the works made, and moreover shows the many projects with moving images that took place during our stay in Tunisia. http://www.atlab.nl/welcometotunesia/lana.html

	Participating artists
Samir Mougas (former student MFA), Souche, Projet Diligence, Sophie Dejode et Bertrand Lacombe, Jean-Daniel Bourgeois, Antoine Meyer, Pierre-Laurent Cassiere, Yann Leguay, Djos Janssens.

The term Capsule designates a group formed by a box-like volume and a specifically produced and integrated artwork. The box is produced by Mobile Institute and the artwork by a guest artist.
Each box is moulded out of resin (polyester), cork and fibre-glass. It's shape and reduced format (51cm x 28cm x 22cm) makes it shock resistant and easy to transport.

	Objectives
The Capsule Project suggests a reflection on producing, advertising and exhibition methods used for artworks. It relies on a collaboration between selected artists, cultural institutions, various private entities and Mobile Institute. Taking as its starting point the formal constraints of a box, the Capsule Project delivers a mobile and gradually increasing art collection. The Capsule Project is a networking system between numerous institutions, partners and artists. It generates a dynamic way of promoting the mutual project stakeholders.

	Steps

1.Boxes are conceived by Mobile Institute
2.Artists transform boxes making them singular and original Capsules.
3.Dissemination and exhibition of Capsules:
Capsules are placed in circulation and exhibited independently. Momentarily and Selectively, Capsules will be reunited for collective exhibitions. Any individual or establishment is entitled to receive, exhibit and relay one or all Capsules.
4.Geo-location of each Capsule.
The website offers an extensive view of the complete Capsule Project. All Capsules are listed with technical data and a historical itinerary.
5. The expansion of the project is limited up to 100 Capsules.

Mobile Institute is an art platform initiated by artists. It is not associated to a specific place and values an open platform for art development and its various exhibited forms. MI is a flexible interface:

	I. As a Platform, MI is a catalyst for networking and creates the conditions in which artists can produce artwork. This specificity makes it stand as a network and a structure.

II. MI develops Projects as an artist group, working in association with established institutions and artists. Through its dynamic behaviour, MI creates specific productions.

III. The Laboratory is an experimental area where the MI utopian vision and research are used as a device for generating projects.

If you wish to follow the developments of the project check the website!
